Name-Your-Price & Free Downloads
How flexible pricing works for digital products, including name-your-price and free download options.
Name-Your-Price & Free Downloads
Tunog Kalye Radio Hub offers flexible pricing options for digital products, empowering fans to support artists at whatever level they can. Here's how it works.
What is Name-Your-Price?
Name-Your-Price (NYP) is a pricing model where you set a minimum price, and fans can choose to pay more if they want. It's perfect for digital downloads where the marginal cost of distribution is zero.
Example
- You release an EP and set the minimum at $0 (free) or $5
- A fan who loves your music might pay $15 because they want to support you
- Another fan pays the minimum — they still get the same download
Setting Up NYP Products
- Go to
/artist/dashboard/products/new - Select Digital Product as the type
- Under Pricing, enable "Name-Your-Price"
- Set your minimum price (can be $0 for free downloads)
- Optionally set a suggested price that shows as a recommendation
Free Downloads
To offer a completely free download:
- Create a digital product with NYP enabled
- Set the minimum price to $0
- Fans can "purchase" it for free and receive an access code for download
Benefits of Free Downloads
- Build your audience — Free tracks are the best way to get new listeners
- Email collection — Fans must create an account to download, growing your potential fanbase
- Streaming boost — Free downloads often lead to streams on Spotify/YouTube
- Goodwill — Fans remember artists who share freely
Download Mechanics
When a fan purchases (free or paid), they receive:
- An access code via email and on-screen
- Up to 3 download attempts per access code
- Files in your chosen format (MP3, WAV, FLAC, ZIP)
- Downloads available for 365 days from purchase
Best Practices
- Lead single free, album paid — Offer one track for free to hook listeners, then charge for the full album
- Pay-what-you-want with a floor — Set $3 minimum for an EP so fans contribute something meaningful
- Bundle strategy — Offer "Album + Bonus Track" as a premium bundle with NYP
- Limited-time free — Set an album as free for the first week, then switch to paid
